Carpet Repair

Carpet repair

It is estimated that 80% of the homes in America need some type of carpet repair or re-stretching. From cigarette burns to bad installations, our flooring is looking at it worst these days. Who has time to think about their carpet and flooring needs?

The better the stretch, the longer the life of the carpet

Have bumps, humps or wrinkles in your carpet? This is a pure indication that the installers did not use a power stretch to install. Why? Its because it takes more time to do it right. Period. Most companies are in such a hurry and no that the warranty will end before the real problems show. Now you are stuck with a very expensive bill to have this fixed the right way. Its always harder to fix something that should have been done right the first time. There are a few other reasons why your carpets can buckle. Improper cleanings can expand and shrink the flooring. Moving heavy furniture without sliders can wear the carpets and backing faster. It may even pull the carpets off the tack. There can be many reason why the carpet is loose and causing so many problems. A knee kicker is not the real way to install carpet. A Knee Kicker is only used to move and set carpets. This is not for the main stretching. Even some installers do not understand this as they destroy their knees to get this stretch they will never get by this tool. If your installer has only used a knee kicker, then it’s you that will be kicked by an expensive re-stretching and repair of the flooring or carpets. Installing carpet is becoming a lost art. To find true installers doing every single step is so very rare. The saying always goes, ‘you pay for what you get’. Be sure to shop around before taking the lowest deal. It can cost you double to even triple the amount down the road.

The average cost of cheap carpet installation in a home of 1000 square feet can run $2000.00 – $3000.00. This is for a basic carpet that will not last past 6 years, even with a great install. All carpets are not created equal. There are many different styles and makes of carpets. This is half of the battle in know what the materials are. Who has time for that? There are so many ways to price carpets. How many rows are stitched? How heavy is the carpet? How many twists do the carpet filament’s have? What is it made out of? These are all serious questions to how much you will pay and how long this carpet will last not including a great job on installing. Most carpet sales people don’t know all of this. They are designed to sell you what the manufactures are trying to push out to the public. It’s very important to ask the right questions from the get go to saving your big investment into the home. Your carpet.

Repairs of carpet is another lost art. Finding a guy that truly will do the right work is very rare. Everyone thinks that you can do these repairs by watching a Youtube Video. It does not work like that and no it is not as easy as they make it look. You can watch a video on how to patch the carpet but what they do not tell you is that you have to go the same way as the carpet with that patch. Find the grain would be another term. Having the right tools is very expensive. Knowing how to use those tools takes many years to learn. Please do not try and fix your flooring by yourself. It will be back breaking and a great chance that you will pay double for this seemingly easy task. Fixing a seam takes a seam iron. Using sticky seam tape is not fixing this repair. Transition strips to other flooring such as gripper bar can require special tools to install as well. It is worth every penny spent to repair or re-stretch your carpets. It can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the long run.
